Chester, Jr.
January 28, 1942 – November 3, 2020
Atkinson, NH: John J. Chester, Jr., 78, a resident of the Town of Atkinson for the last thirty-five years, died November 3, 2020 at Holy Family Medical Center at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, MA.
Born and raised in Lawrence, son of the late John J. and Veronica (Anderson) Chester, he attended Lawrence Public Schools, graduating from Lawrence High School with the Class of 1960. He also attended Lawrence and Lowell Vocational High School to train as an electrician. A member of Local #522 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, he was employed for many years at Manzi Electric of Lawrence and Penney Electric of Boston.
A member of Saint Anne's Parish of Hampstead, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus of Methuen, he was an avid and loyal fan of The Boston Red Sox, The Boston Bruins, The Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed fishing all of his life with special trips to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and the Green Mountains of Vermont, and in his younger years, he enjoyed hunting. Most important to him in his life was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-nine years, Julie Ann (Chadwick) Chester, two sons, John J. Chester, III and his wife Maria of Plaistow, and William H. Chester and his girlfriend Wendy Hicks of Sandown, two daughters, Kathryn A. Saffie and her husband Gregory of Sandown and Julie Ann Reynolds and her husband Mark of Pembroke, NH, a brother, Andrew D. Chester and his wife Maureen of Pelham, NH, eleven grandchildren, Michael Kelleher, Lisa Marsoobian, Jennifer Conte, John J. Chester IV, Jaimie Musen, Kory Reynolds, Kristopher Reynolds, Matthew Kelleher, Joshua Saffie, William H. Chester, Jr., and Emma Melanson, fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Christopher M. Chester in 2015 and by his sister Mary Stacey.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Chester's Life Celebration to be held on Friday, November 6, 2020 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH, under the guidelines of the State of New Hampshire for social distancing and the wearing of masks. His funeral under the same guidelines will be held on Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Saint Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH. Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery.
