John (Jack) Francis Cain, a longtime resident of Sandown, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026. He was 76 years old.
Jack was born in Methuen, MA on July 15, 1949; son of William Francis Cain and Marion (Blouin) Cain. Jack grew up with five brothers and a sister. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and Merrimack College. During these formative years, his adventurous spirit grew, including tackle football without equipment, bridge jumping, sandlot baseball, and swimming in ponds and lakes near and far which often led to a series of bee stings, poison ivy, sunburns, and muscle sprains. Jack met the love of his life Jane, as teenagers at Salisbury beach. They later married, living briefly in Atkinson, NH before moving to their home of over 50 years in Sandown, NH where they raised their family.
Jack was an attentive father, spending much time with his son and two daughters, passing on his love of sports and the outdoors, with his many adventures. He loved biking and hiking usually with one of his dogs by his side. When winter came, he would hit the ski slopes every chance he got. His work often required travel throughout Massachusetts, sometimes resulting in year- long assignments in Boston and Cambridge. He made the most of these long commutes bringing his rollerblades and skating around the Boston Common, the esplanade, or Harvard Square on his lunch hour. He was quite the daredevil - known for doing flips off his deck into the pool well into his sixties. Jack had an impressive work ethic that was the foundation of his career of many years working for New England Telephone and Verizon. After retiring, he and Jane traveled throughout Europe and the Caribbean. He shared his legacy through his enthusiastic and entertaining storytelling. His children and grandchildren meant everything to him. They all are greatly inspired by him and his indomitable spirit, which will continue to live on.
Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jane (Berthel) Cain ; their son Michael Cain of Exeter, NH and wife April Buchanan Cain, grandsons Jacob and William Cain; daughter Julie (Cain) Lepage of Londonderry, NH and her husband Andy Lepage, grandsons Aiden and Logan Lepage and granddaughter Aria Lepage; daughter Alise (Cain) Daigle of Merrimack, NH and her husband Christopher Daigle, granddaughters Harper, Selah, and Alivia Daigle.
Jack is also survived by his siblings James (Jim) Cain, Patricia (Cain) Grassis, Richard (Rick) Cain, David Cain and their families and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Jack is predeceased by brothers Joseph (Joe) Cain, Daniel (Dan) Cain and great nephew Cameron (Cam) Grassis.
