Obituary

Newton, NH: John C. Caiazza, 78, of Newton and formerly of Atkinson, died peacefully on March 1, 2020, surrounded by his loving family, at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA.

Born in Malden, Massachusetts, son of the late Nicholas and Marion (Caruso) Caiazza, he was raised on Long Island, NY and attended Great Neck Schools and later moved to Melrose, Massachusetts and graduated from Melrose High School with the Class of 1959. Mr. Caiazza received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy from Boston College and later received both his Master's Degree and Ph.D in Philosophy from Boston University.

Dr. Caiazza spent most of his professional career as a professor and college administrator. He was employed at various schools of higher education throughout New England, including Brandeis University, University of Massachusetts at Boston, Tufts University, and most recently as an adjunct Professor of Philosophy at Rivier University, Nashua, NH.

After he retired, Mr. Caiazza was able to devote most of his leisure time to writing and research. He is the author of numerous books on science, technology, religion, and contemporary moral issues. He has also published many articles in scholarly journals. He also enjoyed golfing, discussing politics, watching the New England Patriots, and walks in the woods around his home. He was a member of Saint Anne's Parish of Hampstead and a former member of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish of Plaistow and Newton.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his loving and devoted wife of forty-nine years, Josephine (Catalanotto) Caiazza, a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Mary Caiazza of Boxford, MA, brothers and sisters-in-law, Nick and Fay Caiazza of Lawrenceville, NJ, and Donald and Gail Caiazza of Wilmington, MA, sisters and brothers-in-law, Marianne Caiazza of Lowell, MA, Joanna and Steven Bell of North Reading, MA, and Rosemary and Peter O'Brien of Venice, FL, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Michael Caiazza, Dr. Stephen Caiazza and Matthew Caiazza.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday afternoon, March 5, 2020 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin Friday morning at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH. Burial in Atkinson Cemetery will take place in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Saint Anne's Parish Charitable Outreach Program, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH.
