IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John R.
Bowden
September 10, 1947 – July 24, 2022
Newton, NH: John R. Bowden, 74, a resident of Newton for the past twenty-eight years, died peacefully on Sunday evening, July 24, 2022 at the Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport.
Born in Chelsea, son of the late Russell and Ethel (Theodore) Bowden he was raised and educated in Lynn, MA, and was a member of the Lynn Trade School Class of 1965.
A Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, John served honorably as a Lance Corporal and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Rifle Marksman Badge.
John was employed at General Electric for thirty-eight years as a project craftsman Tinsmith until his retirement in 2011 and was a member of Local 201 of the I.U.E. An avid lake and deep-sea fisherman, and New England Patriots fan, John also enjoyed riding his Harley- Davidson, snowmobiling in Pittsburg, NH, camping and vacations at Moosehead Lake in Maine. Vacations will surely not be the same without him.
John will be fondly remembered for being a champion of one liners, an expert of all things, and a mechanical Macgyver. He was definitely a man who says it like it is and had the biggest laugh in the room. Enjoy your steak and beer in the sky.
He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty-eight years, Shawnee (DeAngelis) Bowden, two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Tom Athos of Chulouta, FL and Katherine and Cameron Gadd of Derry, NH, a son James Bowden, two brothers Richard Bowden and Russell Bowden, both of Groveland, MA, six grandchildren Johnny, Rebecca, Emily, Nick, Matt, and Cheyenne, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins, and was eagerly awaiting the birth of his fourth grandchild. He was predeceased by his son Jonathan Bowden and two sisters Linda Jandreau and Susan Chiaradonna.
