Obituary

Plaistow:  John L. Blonda, 83, a resident of Plaistow for thirty-four years, died peacefully at his home, on May 26, 2021, surrounded by his family.

Born and raised in Ipswich, Massachusetts, son of the late Vito and Helen (Zagranis) Blonda, he was educated in Ipswich and Newburyport, graduating from Newburyport High School with the Class of 1955. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served honorably as an Airman First Class and member of the Military Police in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 until 1963.

Mr. Blonda served as a policeman for the City of Newburyport from 1970 until 1982, and later was employed in the Maintenance Department at Timberlane Regional High School, Plaistow and finally as a parts deliveryman for Burns Auto Supply.

A member of the Disabled American Veterans, he enjoyed playing darts as a member of several dart leagues. He was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox and an avid reader who also enjoyed working at his computer and around his home and yard.

Predeceased in 1997 by his wife, Claire (Picard) Blonda, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and Raymond McKay of Plaistow, Tracy and Bob Brochu of Rowley, MA and Jennifer Fitz Patrick of Wells, ME, a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Janis Blonda of Epping, grandchildren, Cameron Mc Comiskey, Kendall Santiago, Addison McKay, Eryn Notargiacomo, Nathan Notargiacomo and Audrey Notargiacomo, a brother, William Blonda of Exeter, NH, and a sister, Pauline Melanson of Newburyport, MA. He was predeceased by his sister, Alice Higgins.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday morning, June 1, 2021, from 10 a.m. til 12 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. His funeral service will follow at 12:15 p.m. in the funeral home, concluding with burial with Military Honors in Plaistow Cemetery.
