Obituary

North Andover: Joan T. (David) Lewis, 91, a resident of Haverhill, MA for 81years and at the Edgewood Senior Center for the last 6 years, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the Edgewood Retirement Community in North Andover, MA.

Born in Haverhill, MA on February 16, 1934.  She was the daughter of the late Edmund and Irene (Dufour) David. She was a graduate of Smiley School, and St. James High School, class of 1951, in Haverhill and a graduate of MacIntosh Business College.

In 1952 Joan met the love of her life, Richard, while dancing at the Hampton Beach Casino, an activity they enjoyed doing for decades.  They were engaged in 1954 and married in 1956.  She was the beloved wife of Richard for 59 years, together they raised their 3 boys at their home on Rosedale Avenue in Haverhill.

Joan was a devoted parishioner of St. James Church where she served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister. She loved cooking and especially baking and worked for a caterer for several years. A talented artist, she enjoyed painting and was a member of the Haverhill Arts Association.  Joan was also a member of the North Shore Music Theater and cherished attending the performances through the years.

An avid golfer she played at Far Corner (Bradford) and Deer Track (Myrtle Beach) Golf Courses. She enjoyed card games of all kinds, especially cribbage, bridge, and Mahjong. Joan spent many summers with her family and friends at Manning Lake in Gilmanton, NH. and wintered for 27 years in Myrtle Beach, golfing, relaxing, and making lifelong memories.  She and Richard loved to travel through Europe, Canada and New Zealand.

She was predeceased by brothers, Edmund, William and Raymond David and a sister Diane Kinney.

She is survived by her 3 sons and their families, Michael Lewis of Hampton, NH, Larry & Heather Lewis of Haverhill, and David and Julie Lewis of Hampton, NH; 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth Pietrantuono, Michael D. Lewis; Hayley Lewis; Jacqueline Cronan and Michael R. Lewis II, 3 Great Grandchildren, Lorenzo and Massimo Pietrantuono and Cayden Cronan and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joan's Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Saint James Church, Winter St., Haverhill, MA. Burial will follow in Saint James Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Edgewood Retirement Community Employee Appreciation Fund, 575 Osgood St. North Andover, MA 01845, Attention of Accounting Department.
