Ms. Jan M. Sargent, 76, completed her life on earth on Friday, June 8, 2012.
Jan was born to Mary and Hugh Sargent of Westville, NH on November 13, 1935; attended Pollard School, Haverhill High School and rounded out her academic pursuits with a Doctoral Degree from the University of Southern California, School of Public Administration.
In 1956, she joined the Carmelite Sisters of Germantown, NY.Jan's Missions were in the D.C. area, both the Bronx and Manhattan in New York City, as well as Fall River, MA.
Following her Carmelite years, in 1971 Jan moved to Richmond, VA to pursue a career in Substance Abuse Treatment.In thirty-three years as CEO of Virginia's largest treatment corporation, Dr. Sargent made her mark in the relatively new health-crisis of Chemical Dependency.
Jan retired in 2004 to her home in Midlothian, VA, where she enjoyed her last few years until she went to God.
During her a final illness, Jan's primary care-giver, in conjunction with a local hospice, was her loyal and loving friend of many years, Kathy Szymanski of Midlothian, VA.Jan has two brothers; Barry A. of the Westville/Plaistow area, and Don H. of Portsmouth, NH.A nephew, several nieces, along with grand nieces and nephews, who live in the same, general New England area.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH.Her funeral will be held on Thursday from the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Angels Church, Plaistow.Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery, Plaistow.
