Haverhill: James H. Meehan, Jr., 85, a longtime resident of Haverhill and formerly of Newton, NH, died July 31, 2020 at Penacook Place in Haverhill.

Born, raised and educated in Haverhill, son of the late James H. and Gertrude (Hatch) Meehan, he graduated from the former Haverhill Trade School and was a member of the Haverhill High School Varsity Football team.

A former resident of Fremont St. and North Broadway in Haverhill, Mr. Meehan worked as a union carpenter all of his working career until his retirement and was a member of All Saint Parish and the former Saint Joseph Parish. He also lived in Plaistow and Newton, NH for several years, before moving back to Haverhill.

A fan of Boston Bruins Hockey and W.W.F. Wrestling, Mr. Meehan also enjoyed spending time at Rockingham Park in Salem and the Greyhound Racing Track at Seabrook.

Predeceased this past April by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Yvonne (Dodier) Meehan, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons, James H. Meehan, III, and his wife, Lynne of Hampton, NH, and Scott E. Meehan and his longtime loving companion, Leona Ploof of Haverhill, two daughters, Cynthia Balukas and her husband, Joseph of Newton, NH, and Rhonda Langlois and her husband, Stephen of Haverhill, seven grandchildren, Joseph "Jay" Balukas, III, Shawn M. "Rocky" Balukas, Joseph Hodgeny, Zachary Langlois, Brian Meehan, Brandon Meehan and Adam Meehan, and nineteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters, Sylvia and Johanne.
