Atkinson, NH; James "Jim" A. Maroney 78, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Boston Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Born, raised, and educated in Haverhill, Massachusetts, a graduate of Haverhill High School, he was the son to the late Francis H. and Margaret (Dowling) Maroney. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. James then took over and ran the family business, Francis H. Maroney Plumbing and Heating Inc., for fifty years before retiring. The family business allowed him to learn and work alongside his business partner, close friend and cousin, J. Edward Maroney.
Jim was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club of Haverhill, having been past president. During his time as president, he facilitated Holy Family Hospital, formerly Hale Hospital in obtaining their helipad.
Jim had a natural passion and talent for baseball and softball. He was scouted for the Houston Astros team while playing in high school and later coached, sponsored, and cheered on his daughter when she played. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. James also enjoyed playing golf and tennis with friends and family. Above all, his family was most important, especially his grandchildren.
Jim is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of twenty-eight years, together thirty-three, Deborah (DeCelle) Maroney; daughter, Laura Finocchiaro and her husband, John of Brookline; four grandchildren, Kelsey, Benjamin, Daniel, Dylan; two sisters, Mary Maroney-Gay and her husband, Richard "Bud" of Harpswell, ME and Anne Anderson and her husband, Gary of Dover, NH, and several cousins. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Margaret Kayser.
