James K. Ligouri, age 85, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his Atkinson residence. He was the cherished husband of Jeanette (Digby) Ligouri, sharing 34 years of enduring marriage.
Born on December 28, 1938, in Bridgeport, CT, James was the son of the late Louis P. and Elsie (Delvecchio) Ligouri.
A proud graduate of St. Mary's High School in New Haven, CT, James enlisted in the U.S. Navy following his graduation. After his honorable service, he pursued higher education at Seton Hall before embarking on a distinguished 32-year career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Serving under the J. Edgar Hoover administration, James engaged in numerous undercover operations, leaving an indelible mark on the agency.
Beyond his professional life, James, known affectionately as Jim, Jimmy, Hubby, Grandpa J, and Uncle, had a passion for music, particularly percussion, ranging from jazz drumming to snare drumming with the Mattuck Drum Band.
In his later years, James remained an active member of Veterans clubs, contributing as a board member and volunteering with food banks.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanette, his two daughters, Karen (Ligouri) Olenski and husband Tim, and granddaughter Courtney Erin. Brenda (Ligouri) Jake and husband Jim and two grandsons, John Kollmer Jr, and Dean . He leaves behind cherished nephews and nieces survived by his younger sister, Judith K. (Ligouri) Bonner.
Preceding James in death were relatives Joanne (Ligouri) D'Agostino and her husband Gregory, Edward Bonner, and Christopher Lottier.
A funeral mass in celebration of James's life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 10 am, coinciding with his birthday, at St. Teresa's Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull, CT. A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Legion, Operation Comfort Warriors, 5745 Lee Road, Indianapolis, IN 46216, honoring James's commitment to supporting veterans and their well-being.
