IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Irene A. (Jones)
Groenewal
August 2, 1935 – March 5, 2026
Irene Agnes (Jones) Groenewal, 90, of Raymond, NH, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away, March 5, 2026. She was born August 2, 1935, in East Orange, NJ, the daughter of the late Arthur and Betty (Lavelle) Jones.
Irene worked for AT&T in New Jersey as a technical typist for many years until her husband, Jim, transferred to New Hampshire. Here she was a homemaker. Besides managing the family, she was an avid crafter: knitting and crocheting for the people she loved. Irene was active at Holy Angels Church, now Saint Luke the Evangelist, where she participated in Catholic Daughters. She baked cookies for the annual craft fair sometimes with the help of her grandchildren. She crocheted an alter cloth and donated it to the church and ended her service to the Catholic Daughters. Irene cared for her mother, who lived with the family and helped her through her medical issues until her death in 1983.
Irene enjoyed the fruit of the earth. Her children dreaded summer mornings when they were woken up too early in the morning to go strawberry or blueberry picking. They did forgive her, however, when the fruit was transformed into jam, and enjoyed all winter long!
Once Jim retired, they were able to pursue their wanderlust and travel the states by motorcycle. They took multiple trips across the country stopping at many national treasures. They also spent many winter months enjoying the sand and sun in Siesta Key, FL.
Irene will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Donna Harmon and her husband, Peter of Raymond, NH, and Linda Sciocchetti and her husband, Michael of Niskayuna, NY, son, James Groenewal of Atkinson, NH, and her grandchildren, Elizabeth Harmon Monteiro and her wife, Natalie, Patrick Harmon, Ella Lopez and her husband, Enrique, Bianca Sciocchetti, and Emma, Ian, and Aidan Groenewal.
Irene is predeceased by her husband Jim, after more than fifty years of marriage and her beloved Irish Setter, Kelly.
Relatives and friends are kindly asked to meet directly at St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, 8 Atkinson Depot Road, Plaistow, NH, on Wednesday March11, 2026, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at 1:00 PM in the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
