Obituary

Haverhill: Hortense E. (Archambault) Burton, 96 a native and lifelong resident of Haverhill, died peacefully on September 17, 2022 at her home, and surrounded by her family.

The daughter of the late Clarence and M. Blanche (Goudreault) Archambault, she attended Haverhill Public Schools and was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1944.

Mrs. Burton received her Bachelor's Degrees in English and Education from Bridgewater State College and was employed for thirty-nine years as a teacher in the Haverhill school system. During her career, she taught at the Moody School Tilton School, Hannah Duston School and finally the Albert B. Consentino Middle School until her retirement. Following her retirement, Mrs. Burton served as a volunteer teacher at the former Saint Joseph Grammar School for many years.

A communicant of All Saints Parish and the former Saint Joseph Parish, she was also a member of the National Education Association, the Massachusetts Teacher's Association and the Haverhill Teachers Association.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and daughter, she also enjoyed playing cards. She was a longtime summer resident of Cow Island on Lake Winnipesaukee and also enjoyed traveling, especially her yearly trips to Florida with her late husband Lewis to visit with friends.

The wife of the late Lewis C. Burton, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her two sons, Jeffrey L. Burton and Rev. Lt. Commander Richard T. Burton, and her daughter Patricia B. "Tricia" Dupre, all of Haverhill, her grandchildren, Jessie A. (Laliberty) Marsh of Haverhill, William R. "Willie" Laliberty and his wife Charlayna of North Hartland, VT, and Graham Burton of Philadelphia, PA,  three great grandchildren, Zachary Owen and William, a brother Lucien Archambault of Gloucester, and a sister Elaine (Burton) Archambault of Methuen, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Archambault, and her daughter-in-law Alicia Burton.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. at All Saints Church, Haverhill, MA, followed by burial in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.
