Plaistow, NH: Henry J. Ouellette, 90, of Plaistow was taken to heaven on October 28, 2013. He died at Hannah Duston Healthcare Center with the professional and caring staff of the Bradford Unit and Fidelis Hospice by his side.
Born on September 12, 1923 in Westville, NH son of John and Irene (Martin) Ouellette, he spent nineteen years in Lawrence, MA, where he worked as a maintenance mechanic for the Oxford Paper Company/Champion International Paper for twenty-five years. Following the closing of Champion International Paper he worked as a maintenance mechanic for Compugraphic/AGFA where he was often called upon by persons needing precise installation of various items. He would measure twice and complete the task once. He had a very good "eye" for seeing mistakes or errors of any kind.
Mr. Ouellette moved back to his childhood town of Plaistow and settled in the Westville section where he spent fifty years with his best friend and the love of his life, Yvonne (Kerouac) Ouellette, who passed away on August 9, 2011.
A member of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish and the former Holy Angels Parish, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8012 in Belleview, FL, where he was a wintertime resident. Henry was a "Jack of All Trades" and could be called upon by family, neighbors, friends, and others to fix an easy or impossible problem. Henry was a quiet man who asked for little and gave a lot of his time working out a solution to a problem for others. He could easily spark a conversation with strangers.
He enjoyed challenges in many trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and especially mechanical. Working on cars and trucks was his passion.
After his retirement and physical work became difficult, he turned his talents to puzzles; the harder the better. He had a love of trains and would watch any program that had trains included. He relished sitting in his recliner and would wait for trains to pass. Sleep would come easily in "his chair".
Henry is survived by his sisters, Theresa Wrigley of Lawrence, MA, and Toni Ouellette (Sister of Holy Union) of Lawrence, a brother, John Ouellette of Haverhill, MA, sons and daughters-in-law, Henry Jr. and Carol (Swift) Ouellette of Atkinson, Richard and Suzan (Drewniak) Ouellette of Huntersville, NC, and Ronald and Elizabeth (McDaris) Ouellette of Cumming, GA, grandchildren, Charlene (Martin) Pelletier and her husband John of Salem, NH, Marissa Ouellette of Atkinson, Chad Ouellette of Dover, NH, Brandon Ouellette and his wife Laura of Huntersville, NC, Keith Ouellette USN and his wife Jennifer, Katherine Ouellette of Ashville, NC, and Eleanor Ouellette of Ashville, NC, great grandchildren, JP Martin, Hannah Ouellette, Cailey Ouellette, Zachary Ouellette, Matthew Pelletier, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Rich Martin.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hannah Duston Long-term Care Facility and Fidelis Hospice for the outstanding care and love that was given to Mr. Ouellette by his surrogate family in the last two years.
A funeral service will be held on May 27, 2014, which would have been his 70th wedding anniversary with his wife Yvonne, at 12 noon at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. In keeping with Henry's wishes he will be buried alongside his beloved wife in Holy Angels Cemetery, Plaistow, NH. The family requests that those attending services be dressed in casual attire, as that is what he would have wanted. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Fidelis Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice. To leave a message of condolence for the family please visit our website, www.brooksidechapelfh.com.
