"Jim" Betournay
July 11, 1931 – April 4, 2017
Harvin Louis Betournay (Jim) 85, passed away on April 4, 2017 in Exeter NH after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on July 11, 1931 in Haverhill MA, the son of the late Harvin J. Betournay and Rosealma (Chapdelaine) Betournay. He graduated from Haverhill High School in 1950 and then served in the U. S. Navy for four years during the Korean War.
In 1958 he started Harvey Lumber Company on Primrose Street, Haverhill which he managed for forty-two years until his retirement in April, 2000.
He and his family lived for many years in Atkinson N.H., where he was a volunteer in the Atkinson fire department for some time. He enjoyed spending time on the water with his family on Lake Wentworth in Wolfeboro NH and St John in the USVI. In 2010 he and his wife moved to the Riverwoods (Boulders) Retirement Community in Exeter N.H.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita Dube Betournay, and his four children – Kathryn Betournay Shea and Gary Ouellette of Atkinson NH, Jeanne Betournay Lanseigne and Albert Lanseigne of Atkinson NH, Suzanne Betournay Credit and Allen Credit of Groveland MA, and David John Betournay and Karen Gordon Betournay of Greenland NH. He also leaves his brother John J. Betournay who lives with his wife Kathryn in Portsmouth NH.
He leaves nine grandchildren – Cristina Valdes of Boston MA, Samantha Credit of Andover MA, Brian Shea of Derry NH, Michelle and Allison Credit of Groveland MA, Matthew and Delaney Shea of Atkinson NH, and Paige and Skyler Betournay of Greenland NH.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mr. Betournay's Life Celebration to be held on Friday, April 14, 2017, from 4 to 7 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH.
The family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
