Obituary

Harold "Hap" Makin, 93, a resident of Lawrence, MA and formerly Atkinson, NH, died on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Janet R. (Gould) Makin who passed away in 2007.

He was born in Lawrence, MA on December 3, 1930 and was the son of the late Herbert and Josephine (Smith) Makin.

Hap was raised and educated in Lawrence, MA. He proudly served his country during the Korean war by enlisting in the United States Navy. Hap was employed in the maintenance department for many years at Sandy's Bowling in Windham, NH, and the Londonderry Bowling Center until his retirement in 1997. He had a passion for baseball. Hap was a member of the umpire's association, acting as an umpire for the New Hampshire softball and baseball leagues, as well as the Merrimack Valley baseball board.

Hap is survived by his daughter Lynne P. Makin-Torres of Lawrence, his granddaughters Serena Torres and Kelly Torres of Lawrence, his brother Gerald Makin of Methuen, MA, his sister Eleanor Seddon of MO, and several nieces and nephews.

He was sadly predeceased by his siblings Herbert Makin, David Makin, Alice Boschetto, Doris Bourdais and Joyce Nevins.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 10am – 12pm at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home 116 Main St. Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will follow in the chapel at the funeral home at 12:15. Interment will be held privately.
