Gordon J. Lewis, 89, a longtime resident of Plaistow died peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Frances (Furtado) Lewis with whom he shared 63 years of devoted marriage.
He was born on October 5, 1934 in Boston, MA and was the son of the late Gordon L. Sr. and Mary (McNeil) Lewis. Gordon proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War before working for Raytheon for 39 years. Gordon was known for his quick wit, his laughter, and admiration for his family. He was very proud of his Irish Heritage and enjoyed traveling often with his wife and family to visit Newfoundland and Ireland. Gordon spent his retired years golfing, working in his vegetable garden and woodshop, and volunteering a helping hand to anyone in need. Gordon was a very proud Catholic and served his community faithfully as a Knights of Columbus Charter Member 6617 for 40 years. He served as a Faithful Navigator and a financial secretary throughout many of those years. Above all else, family was the most important. He taught his children and granddaughter that family always came first and to respect, cherish, and value your family.
Besides his wife Gordon is survived by his children Gordon Lewis of Colorado, and Cheryl Lewis-Gardella and her husband Frank of Newton, N.H., the sunshine of his life, his granddaughter Angelica Lewis-Gardella and her fiancé Stephen Lesiczka, his sisters Evelyn Defraia and her husband Jimmy, and Mary Brown and her husband Charles. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gordon was sadly predeceased by his sister Marilyn Lewis and his mother and father-in-law Frank and Connie Furtado.
His family would like to extend their gratitude to Rockingham VNA and Hospice for the care provided to Gordon and his family.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 5pm – 7pm at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral will start at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 15 at 9am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am at St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, 8 Atkinson Depot Rd., Plaistow, NH. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Holy Angels Food Pantry at the parish or The Plaistow Fire – Rescue- EMS.
