She was born on October 14, 1915 in Groveland, MA, the daughter of Herman L. Bean, Sr. and Laura (Taupin). She was raised and educated in Groveland.

Gertrude had worked for many years at Fifth Avenue Shoe in Haverhill. She had also worked for over 30 years as an office manager for Warren Frye Insurance Co., Haverhill.

She enjoyed traveling, especially going to Cape Cod and to Florida with the Frye family. She loved going out to eat at the Ogunquit Lobster Pound with her sister, Ruthie.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband, Arthur G. Starbird, brother, Herman L. Bean, Jr. and sisters, Lena Spurr and Ruthie Frost. She is survived by nephews, Edward Spurr and wife, Jean of Groveland, Ronald Spurr and wife, Elaine of Atkinson, NH, nieces, Mary David and husband, Paul of Claremont, FL and Pamela Tarr and husband, George of Haverhill. Several great nieces and great nephews also survive her.

Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, April 27, 2012, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. Funeral Services will follow the visiting at 10:45 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
