Obituary

On Saturday, July 5th, Georgette (Cormier) Tattan, the oldest resident of Maidstone Lake, Vermont, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 95 due to complications from congestive heart failure. She was surrounded by her family.

Georgette was born on April 26, 1930, in Haverhill, Massachusetts and was the daughter of the late Lucien Cormier and Eva (Gauthier) Cormier.

She received her primary education at Saint Joseph's Elementary School and subsequently graduated from Haverhill High School in 1948. At age 19, she met a young man at a dance at St. Joseph's School. During the intermission, she brought this young gentleman home to meet her parents, and nearly a year later, she got married. That man, George Tattan Sr., became her husband for the next 48 years and father of their four children. Georgette, a wife and mom of four, was the heart and soul of the family. She was a strong, independent, and hardworking woman who taught us about work ethics, importance of family, respect, kindness, and compassion.

After working several years in the shoe shops as a stamper she was then hired as a stamper at Western Electric in 1948 where she worked for 30 years. During her time at Lucent, Georgette was frequently requested for her creative scrapbooking skills. She also crafted lovely and cherished keepsake albums for her children and grandchildren. Georgette was known for her sociability and her enjoyment of organizing social gatherings with her friends. She particularly enjoyed going out for lunch and sharing a few jokes and sipping on a ginger brandy. Furthermore, she dedicated many years of service to the All Saints Parish Thrift Shop.

In 2016, Georgette relocated to Maidstone, Vermont, to reside with her daughter and son-in-law. She quickly enjoyed loving the lake life! You could always find her working on a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle, watching her favorite soap opera (General Hospital) and enjoying the company of family and friends. Her kindness was soon apparent, as she handmade and generously donated 2,000 masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, along with potholders and her ongoing support of local charity initiatives.

Georgette is survived by her four children George Tattan and his wife Carol (Maynard) of Gardiner, Maine, Gregory Tattan and his wife Jean (MacDougall) of Merrimack, MA, Gail Tattan-Giampaolo and her husband Guy of Maidstone, VT. and Gina (Tattan) Brunelle of Derry, NH. She also leaves one sister Lorraine (Cormier) Eaton of Hampton Falls NH and cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Georgette was predeceased by her husband, George Tattan Sr. and her sister Rachel Cormier Laflamme.

The family expresses sincere gratitude to family, friends and the Maidstone Lake community for their kindness and compassion shown during these last few challenging months and Caledonia Home Health and Hospice Team for their generous support, guidance and compassionate care that allowed our Mom to stay at home.

A private burial service will be held for the family in coming weeks.
