Obituary

George W. Murray, 79, a longtime Atkinson resident, died Wednesday at the Lawrence General Hospital, with his family by his side.

Born and raised in Haverhill, MA, son of the late John and Pauline (Poirier) Murray, he was a 1963 graduate of the former Haverhill Trade School. George was employed for many years as a printer at Essex Printing and later worked as a regional sales manager for B.J's Wholesale Club until retirement.

Music was a large part of George's life and as a young man he was a guitarist for a local band, The Del-Fi's. They played local venues and at Canobie Lake Park and once opened a show for Sonny and Cher. He also learned to play keyboards and maintained his life-long interest in music.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, George enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's athletics games, music recitals, theater performances and events. He also enjoyed driving around the area with his wife, Hope, and had a lot of fun playing Santa Claus at Freshwater Farms in Atkinson and at Fisk Elementary School in Salem, NH. He also had a special place in his heart for his canine friend, Molly.

George will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of fifty-nine years, Hope (Ordway) Murray, his son and daughter-in-law, George W., Jr. and Laura Murray of Atkinson, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa L. and David Albetski of Hampstead, and Laurie L. and Gary Lesiczka, of Nottingham, a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Karen Murray of Groveland, MA, a sister Mary A. Fielding of Hampton, NH, and was predeceased by two older brothers, John and Richard Murray. He also leaves behind his beloved six grandchildren, Lauren Smith, Drew Lesiczka, Michael Albetski, Mathew Albetski, Ella Murray and Mia Murray, three great-grandchildren, Will and Ellie Lesiczka and Grace Smith, and several nieces and nephews.
