Obituary

Zephyrhills, Florida: George J. Gallant, 89, a resident of Zephyrhills, and formerly of Plaistow, NH and Haverhill, MA, died October 26, 2021 at Advent Health Center in Zephyrhills.

Born in Ipswich, Massachusetts, son of the late Alfred and Suzanne (Culot) Gallant, he attended Saint Stanislaus Grammar School and Saint Joseph Academy. A Korean War veteran, Mr. Gallant served honorably as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until 1954 and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Occupation Medal/Germany.

Mr. Gallant was employed first at Bixby Box Toe Co. and Regano Box Toe.  He later worked at the Plaistow Post Office from 1962 until 1967 and then at the Haverhill Post Office from 1967 until transferring to The Lawrence Post Office in 1972, from where he retired as a clerk in 1978.

A former resident of Plaistow for thirty years, Mr. Gallant was a longtime member of Holy Angels Parish, the St. Jude Council of the Knights of Columbus and a 4 th Degree member of Bishop Peterson Assembly in Salem, NH. He was also a member of the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion, Council Voiture 70 of the 40 and 8, and a Life Member of Hannah Duston Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans.

An avid fisherman, sports fan Mr. Gallant enjoyed watching hockey and football.  He also enjoyed RVing across the United States and Canada, spending summers on Prince Edward Island, taking cruises, playing hockey and coaching for Plaistow and Haverhill Youth Hockey Leagues and dining out. A resident of Zephyhills for twenty-eight years he was an active  member of Saint Joseph Parish in Zephyrhills and also The Saint Joseph Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was a thirty-five year Friend of Bill.

Predeceased in 2013, by his loving and devoted wife, Elizabeth Jane (Villaire) Gallant, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by a son Donald E. Gallant and his wife Frances of Plaistow, two daughters, Jane E. Roberts and her husband John of Reading, MA, and Nancy E. Gallant of Waltham, three grandchildren, Michael Gallant, Louis Roberts and Adam Roberts, his dear friend Art Ratte and his companion and "adopted daughter" Sandra Griffith of Zephyrhills. He was predeceased by his brothers Rene J, Andrew J, Alfred J. and Roland J. Gallant.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Gallant's Life Celebration to be held on Monday, November 1, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main ST., Plaistow, NH. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 9 a.m. from the funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, 8 Atkinson Depot Road, Plaistow, NH. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery, East Road, Plaistow.
