Dirago
June 30, 1935 – September 15, 2024
Windham, NH: George V. Dirago, 89, of Windham and a former longtime resident of Haverhill, Massachusetts, died peacefully on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Salem Woods in Salem NH, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born and raised in Haverhill, Geroge was the son of the late Vincent and Rose (Perreault) Dirago and was a member of the Haverhill High School Class of 1953 where he lettered in Track and Cross Country. He later graduated in 1958 from Northeastern University with his Bachelor's Degree in History, Political Science and Government and was also a member of the university's Track Team. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1952 until 1961.
George worked as a buyer at Western Electric, AT & T Technologies and Lucent Technologies for forty-one years before his retirement in 2000.
A former member of All Saints Parish and Saint Joseph Parish in Haverhill, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Greeter, George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an avid sports fan and continued his competitive running during most of his adult life. He was a member of The Winners Circle Running Club, The Whirlaway Racing Team, The New England 65+ Running Club and qualified for the A.T. & T. and Lucent Corporate National Racing Team, earning silver and bronze medals for 5K and 10K races. He was a member of the Victor Emmanuel Lodge of the Sons of Italy and the Jaffarians Softball Team. He served as a coach for the St. Joseph Little League and was a member of the St. Joseph's Bowling Leagues.
George will be sadly missed by his loving wife of sixty-two years, Camille A. (Gilberto) Dirago, a son and daughter-in-law, Mark J. and Kathleen Dirago of Raleigh, NC, and a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie L. and Herb Daniels of Windham, NH, four grandchildren, Anthony Dirago, Jessica (Dirago) Michaud and her husband Drew, Hunter Daniels and Ashley Daniels, two great- granddaughters, Marlie and Maddie Michaud, two sisters, Mary Rose Marzioli, and Theresa Trick, both of Haverhill, and several nieces, nephews and cousins and his canine companion "Daisy".
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours to be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 10 A.M. until 12 o'clock Noon at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel and conclude with burial in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill, MA.
