George Joseph Abate, 83, of Atkinson NH, son of Nicholas and Lillian (Pazzanese) Abate of of Italy, and Haverhill MA., respectively,  passed away at Wingate at Haverhill, on August 5, 2017. An Army veteran of WWII, George served with dignity and honor. Born November 23, 1933, George was a graduate of Haverhill High School, and later worked as a Communications worker for Western Electric, where he would retire after 35 dedicated years.

George will be sadly missed by his wife Alice (Friedrich) Abate of 62 years, and is survived by his daughter Alisa (Abate) Chagnon of Bradford, MA. George was predeceased by his son Shawn Abate, and daughter Robintina (Abate) Wilson, brothers Joseph Abate, Nicholas Abate, and Ty Abate. He is survived by his six grandchildren Shawn Abate, of Methuen MA, Deanna Abate of San Diego, CA., Brandon Chagnon of Bradford, MA., Connor Chagnon of Haverhill, MA., Holly Goulet of Salem, NH., and Colin Wilson.

George was a chess enthusiast, collector of chess memorabilia, and an avid chess player. George loved spending winters in Florida with his wife Alice of 62 years and spending time with his family.

Family and friends are invited to George's graveside service with military honors,  on Friday, August 11, 2017, at 10:00 am, at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Haverhill, MA. under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home , Plaistow, NH.
