Frederick P. Gabriel Sr., 79, passed away peacefully at home in Merrimac, MA with his family on August 16, 2020. He was born on February 13, 1941 in Beverly MA to Frederick C. and Katherine M.(Sullivan) Gabriel.
Fred was raised and educated in Beverly, MA and was a 1959 graduate of Beverly High School. He obtained his Bachelors from Merrimack College in Andover, MA in 1963 and later obtained a Master's Degree in Education from Suffolk University.
Fred and his wife moved from Beverly to Newburyport in 1966 and called it home while they raised their five children. Fred later lived in York, Maine and southern New Hampshire. He also enjoyed several years as a wintertime resident of Florida.
Fred is survived by his five children, Frederick P Gabriel Jr. of Warren, CT, James and Donna Gabriel of Newburyport, MA, Catherine Gabriel-Heusser & Robert Heusser of Merrimac, MA, Susan and Craig Lane of Newburyport, MA, and Cynthia and Austin Walsh of West Newbury, MA. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Michael Gabriel-Deveau. He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He cherished every moment that he was able to share with them. He is survived by his three siblings, Patricia and Walter Boliver, Rhonda and Paul Osborne and Steve Gabriel.
Fred worked as a teacher for many years. His first teaching job was with Pentucket Regional High School and then he went to Danvers High School where he taught high school and junior high math and science for 30 years. He maintained a real estate license and often spent summers rehabbing houses in the Greater Newburyport area. He was also affiliated with the Knights of Columbus and Massachusetts Teachers' Association.
Fred was a devoted grandfather and yard sale enthusiast. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His home was always open. He enjoyed entertaining, gardening and road trips, especially through the White Mountains. He was someone who liked to stay busy, had a good sense of humor and communicated best through his facial expressions. He had a place in his heart for animals and especially loved dogs.
Since 2011, Fred was an active member of the Rock Church where he participated in the men's group and enjoyed being a member of the choir. He met many wonderful people and found peace.
Relatives & friends are invited to celebrate Fred's life at an outside service to be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at 10:00A.M. on the grounds of the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH 03865. Attendees are asked to follow guidelines of wearing a mask and social distancing. Arrangements are under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home of Plaistow.
