Obituary

Franklyn "Frank" F. Carrington, Sr., age 91, longtime Plaistow resident, passed peacefully in his home with family on July 7, 2023. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Edna (Daniels) Carrington, of nearly 50 years. Born in Ward Hill, MA, he was the son of the late Ralph and Sylvia (Noel) Carrington. His family resided in Ward Hill where he attended Haverhill Trade School. In addition to being the leader of the Carrington clan of Plaistow and a great father and grandfather, he was an avid candlepin bowler, a Boston sports team enthusiast, supreme puzzler and he played a mean game of 45's.

As a proud veteran, Frank served with the United States Navy during the Korean War starting in 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. During his service, he married his childhood sweetheart, Edna Daniels, from "Kelley Town" in Plaistow. After returning from the service and settling into married life, he and Edna had 4 children. Frank was a skilled carpenter, learned from the Haverhill Trade School, and helped build 70 houses in 7 years in the Plaistow and Atkinson communities as well as his own home. As a youngster, he worked at St. Joseph's Bowling Alley setting pins for 5 cents a string. His love of bowling lasted more than 80 years and was handed down to his sons and grandsons. Frank managed Pilgrim Lanes Bowling Alley for 28 years, also running and participating in several bowling leagues. As his boys were younger, he coached and mentored players on the local baseball and Babe Ruth teams.

In the 1980's, he and Edna traveled cross country on his Honda 750, an adventure much talked about with lots of stories about the long-married couple becoming even closer and more in love. In later years, he could be seen each day at Casey's Diner with his favorite gals for breakfast to meet new and old friends or sitting in the sunshine on his porch. He was privileged to participate in an Honor Flight New England event where veterans are thanked and honored with a sponsored trip to Washington, DC so they can visit and reflect at the military memorials in our nation's capital.

He leaves his 4 children, sons Bruce, Gary and Frank Jr. and his daughter Susan Osgood and husband David, as well as his grandchildren, Matthew Carrington and wife Katelyn, Michael Carrington, Kaila Phillips and fiancée Philip Taheny, Melody & Scott Toland and 5 great grandchildren Holly, Nora, Collin, Aidan and Abbie. In addition he leaves 3 siblings, David Carrington, Sylvia McComiskey and Laurel Senter and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is pre-deceased by Edna, his wife, brother Ralph Carrington, and sisters Shirley Brock, Muriel Kemp, and Natalie Faxon.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 5-7pm on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, at the funeral home at 11am. Interment will follow in Plaistow Cemetery, Plaistow, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Honor Flight New England, PO Box 16287, Hooksett, NH 03106.
