Obituary

East Hampstead, NH: Frank H. Messer, III, age 73, a resident of East Hampstead for the last twenty-six years, died September 28, 2022, at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Methuen, Massachusetts, son of the late Frank H. Jr. and Pauline (Charest) Messer, he attended Lawrence Public schools before moving with his family to Methuen where he was a member of the Tenney High School Class of 1966. He served honorably in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 5 from 1967 until 1970 and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Ribbon w/60 Device, the Vietnam Defense Medal, two Overseas Bars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Certificate of Achievement and two Sharpshooter Ribbons. Frank later received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Lowell Technical Institute and his MBA from Northeastern University.

Frank began his career as a CPA with the Ernst and Whinney Accounting firm of Manchester, and later served as the Town Accountant for the City of the Town of Methuen, the Town Administrator for the Town of Westford and Town Administrator for The Town of Merrimac. He also maintained a tax practice as a certified public accountant.

A resident of Derry, NH from 1976 until 1999, Frank was a member of Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish where he served as a CCD teacher. He also volunteered his time as an Assistant Coach for the Derry Youth Basketball League and Youth Baseball League.

A certified scuba diver, he maintained a vacation home in Turks & Caicos for twenty-five years, enjoying spending time with his family, especially teaching his grandchildren how to play poker and "coconut bowling". In later years he bought a beach house in Surfside Beach SC and continued his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He moved to East Hampstead in 1999 and was a member of Saint Anne's Parish, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and an instructor for the Baptismal Class.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted and loving wife of fifty-five years, Diane (Vellette) Messer, two daughters and sons-in-law, Renee C. and Thomas Young of Kingston, NH, and Lisa M. and Kenneth Young of Hampstead; , a son and daughter-in-law, Frank H. IV and Jessica of Lowell, MA, three brothers, Jeffrey Messer of MA, Richard Messer of California, and Brian Messer of NH; five sisters, Charlotte Parks of NH, Karen Ord of MA, Joyce Fusco of  FL, Lynn Curtin of NH and Christine Muise of MI; eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Csky, Alicia, Dylan, Jacob, Zachary, Isabelle and Logan; four great-grandchildren, Lucas, Grayson, Wesley, and Julian; an uncle, Rev. Edmund Charest, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends

Relatives and friends are invited to Frank's Life Celebration to be held on Friday, October 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street., Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a fund in Frank's memory to benefit Dr. Dey's Clinic in Bangladesh and sent in care of the Messer Family, or to The Wounded Warrior Project.
