Haverhill, MA: Francis W. "Whitey" Tellier, 94, of Haverhill passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill.
Born in Lowell, MA, son of the late Herman and Albina (Jodoin) Tellier, he moved to Haverhill as a child and attended St. Joseph's School, the Fox School, and Haverhill Trade School where he was a member of the Varsity Football Team.
Mr. Tellier served as a Technician 5th Grade in the United States Army during WWII stationed with Battery C of the 660th Field Artillery Battalion. He saw action in Central Europe and the Rhineland and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, and the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Mr. Tellier worked first in the local shoe industry and later as a pipe fitter for Malden Mills for twenty years before his retirement. He was a member of All Saints Parish, the former St. Joseph's Parish, and the Whist Party Club of Atkinson.
An avid Bruins and Red Sox fan, he enjoyed playing cards and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Rosalie M. (Comeau) Tellier, who was the love of his life, two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol E. and Patrick McGonagle of Haverhill, Pauline M. and Richard Kozar of North Reading, MA, a sister, Charlotte Paquette of Plaistow, four granddaughters, Rebecca (Eastman) Iyore and her husband Christian of Lowell, Leanne Eastman and Jason Petrou of Haverhill, Megan (McGonagle) Fuchs and her husband Lance of Hampstead, NC, and Alison (McGonagle) O'Connell and her husband Jack of Amesbury, four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Alexander, Brody, and Calyn, and several nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors who were so very dear to him. He was predeceased by his brothers, Norman and Robert Tellier.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. His funeral will begin on Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill.
