Frances (DelBuono-Thibedore) Driscoll, 96, of Danville, NH, died on July 18, 2019 at Windham Terrace, Windham, NH.
She was born in Cambridge, MA to Donatella (Gelsomino) and Saverio Del Buono of Manfredonia, Italy and Cambridge, MA. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Thibedore (1958) and William Driscoll (2005); her sisters Mary Giardini and Rose DelBuono; brothers John, Ralph, and Anthony DelBuono; her son, Robert (Joanne) Thibedore and Grandson, Kristopher Thibedore.
She is survived by her daughter Janet (Thibedore-Legg) (Frank), Vaglica of Danville, NH; son William J. Driscoll, Jr. of Brooklyn NY; Grandchildren Joseph Legg of Peabody, MA, Patrice (Rocky) Gay of Caldwell, TX, Carolyn Legg of Waco, TX, and Lisa (Thibedore) (Michael) Fiore of Middleton, MA; Great Grandchildren, Francesca Gay, Maxwell Gay, Stryker Gay, and Julia Gay.
Frances was born in the middle of a snowstorm with her Grandmother in attendance and the Doctor arrived two days later. She was the 4 th child of Donatella and Saverio and was the youngest until sister Rose arrived some years later. She was known to be talkative, precocious and Daddy's favorite. Italian was the language at home in many neighborhoods of Cambridge and Somerville. She fondly remembered the old black stove her mother kept gleaming where cocoa was served and kept them all warm. She attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin school, but the Depression was hard and she left school early to begin work. Her first job being a door to door salesperson. She was a beautiful woman with an air of being special that would follow herthe rest of her life. She met Joseph Thibedore in 1941 and was soon married and started her own family in Roxbury, MA. She loved being a Mother and was soon alone with daughter Janet when WW2 started and Joseph joined the Army. Robert was born in 1946 and she returned to work and always regretted not being home with him as a baby.
Frances and Joseph moved to Roberts Road in Cambridge in approximately 1948 where Francesworked at Hood Rubber in Watertown, MA. There were many happy times with her large close knit family celebrating holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, and baptisms. During vacations the families would take the kids and go camping and roughing it, and they would have the best of times. They moved to Somerville and purchased their first home at 403 Washington Street Somerville, MA.
Tragedy struck in 1958 when her beloved husband suffered a heart attack leaving her a widow at age 36 with two children. In 1960 she married her co-worker, William J. Driscoll, of Roxbury, MA. They left for CA and did not last long there before settling in Columbus, OH near her sister, Rose for 37 years. During that time, she worked at Lazarus Department store selling men's suits with a reputation for making great commissions on her sales. Their son, Bill, was born during this time. During these years, she trekked to Boston to see her kids and grandchildren. These were magical times and full of fun and visits. Her quest for adventure was contagious-her travel bug was catchy and each summer would be filled with travel and new explorations. She always spent time with her brothers and their kids as well as her many nieces and nephews. Amusement parks were nothing for her to take advantage of- bumper cars, water slides, roller coasters. She was just fearless. She was in her early 70's when she and her sister Rose went white water rafting and lived to tell their families about it. They impressed us all with their courage!!! In her early 70's she took up painting and turned out beautiful water colors and oil portraits that hang on walls today. She made her family proud.
Into her 90s, she was energetic, hard-working, and smart. She did daily crosswords for over 70years, read voraciously, watched movies and kept up with politics right up to today. That is how she is best remembered. A woman who lived life fully with a robust sense of humor, adventure, fearlessness, and joie de vivre. Her family always felt special being part of her tribe. She made us proud to be who we were.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, July 22, 2019 at Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, Plaistow, NH.
