Belanger
October 4, 1946 – May 7, 2020
Haverhill: F. John Belanger, 73, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, died May 7, 2020 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Born, raised and educated in Haverhill, son of the late Henry and Pearl (Belanger) Daignault, he was a member of the Haverhill High School, Class of 1966. John served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War as a member of the Military Police and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, John first worked for the U.S. Postal Service and later as an assembler for Hewlett Packard of Andover, retiring with twenty years of service.
John was a member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill, the former Saint Joseph Parish, the Lorraine Post of the VFW, the Hannah Duston Chapter of the DAV, the American Legion Post #4 and AmVets Post 147.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he also was the "big brother" to his large family of siblings, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping his home, trips to the beach and playing 45's and cribbage. He was an accomplished cook and especially enjoyed preparing breakfast for his family and friends.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of fifty-one years, Charlotte (Hancock) Belanger, a son Daniel J. Belanger and his wife Crystal of Methuen, a daughter Michelle Owens and her fiancé Kevin Donohue of Salisbury, a brother Robert Daignault and his wife Marisol of Palmer, three sisters, Linda Jennings and her husband Joe, Susan Marshall and Donna Dusombre, all of Haverhill, three grandsons, Max and Owen Belanger and Brandon Owens, an aunt Rita Gobeil of Haverhill and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister June Eaton, and brothers, Joseph "Ronnie" Belanger, Henry Daignault, Richard Daignault and Donald Daignault.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday, June 22, 2020, from 5 to 8 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St, Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at 9 AM from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill, MA. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center, 10 Reed St, Haverhill, MA 01832, or to The Salvation Army, 395 Main St., Haverhill, MA 01830
