Eugene G. Bunker, 91, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026, at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of the late Grace (Raymond) Bunker, his bride of 52 years.
Born on November 28, 1934, in Haverhill, MA, Eugene was the son of the late Kenneth and Virginia (Blaisdell) Bunker. He was raised and educated in Haverhill and proudly graduated from Haverhill Trade School in 1953. Eugene honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era.
Eugene spent many years working as a compositor at The Lowell Sun until his retirement. He was actively involved in his community, serving as a former president of the Men’s Club at West Congregational Church in Haverhill, a member of the Wilbur M. Comeau Post of the American Legion in Haverhill, and a past Cub Scout leader. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring antique cars, and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Eugene is survived by his children Mark Bunker and his wife Michelle of Haverhill, MA, and Tammi McGrath and her husband Michael of Haverhill, MA; his grandchildren Ilise Roussopoulos and her husband Alexander, Mallory Blackington and her husband Steven, Steven McGrath, and Kevin McGrath and his wife Tara; and his great-grandchildren Owen McGrath Jackman, Lincoln Roussopoulos, Caleb Roussopoulos, Hunter McGrath, Holden McGrath, and Caden Blackington. He is also survived by his sister Phyllis Duscharme, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings Janice Roberts, Ruth Wilkinson, Harold Bunker, Jesse Anastasi, and Arlene Clark.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. A funeral service will follow at 12:15 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held privately.
