Merrimac, MA: Ernest E. "Ernie" Viens, 89, of Merrimac, MA, died on March 15, 2024, at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center, Haverhill, MA.

Born in Haverhill, the son of the late Emmanuel and Eleanor (Perreault) Viens, Ernie attended Haverhill Trade School and graduated with the
Class of 1952. He worked as a Tester/Analyst for Western Electric Company, AT&T and Lucent Technologies, retiring after thirty-eight years of service.

Ernie was a member of The Northshoremen Barbershop Chorus of Beverly, MA; the Communication Workers of America and the Telephone Pioneers. Ernie was an avid sports fan, especially the Patriots and Red Sox. For many years, he umpired and coached for local youth baseball teams and was a member of the Merrimack Valley Umpire Association.

The widower of Jeannette (Picard) Viens (d.1991), and Gloria (Carufel) Viens (d.2019), Ernie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by a son, Ernest Viens, Jr. of Haverhill; daughters, Patricia Sweeney of Merrimac and Cheryl Harrison of South Lyon, MI; a brother, Paul Viens of New Boston, NH; a sister, Eleanor Simmons of Nashua, NH; seven grandchildren, Samantha (Sweeney) Laroe, Adam Sweeney, Jovaun Viens, Logan Viens, Colleen (Harrison) Moebs, Courtney Harrison and William Harrison; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ernie was pre-deceased by two daughters, Deborah (Viens) Koretko, (d.1996) and Cynthia Viens, (d.2023); a brother, Robert Viens and a sister, Evelyn Morse.
