Obituary

STETSON, ME - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ernest Stewart. Ernest "Ernie" Russell Stewart, 57, of Stetson, passed away unexpectedly in the morning of January 21, 2025.

He was born the fifth child of Lee and Barbara (Welch) Stewart on August 13, 1967 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. During his younger years, he could be found reading, or playing with little green army men. In September of 1986, Ernest enlisted in the United States Army. He served for five years in the 101st Airborne Division as an infantryman, eventually working his way to the rank of sergeant. He was stationed overseas during the Gulf War. He was honorably discharged in 1991. After returning from his military service, he married his childhood best friend and sweetheart, Gerri Montgomery Chadwick, on September 16, 1994.  On July 22, 2000, they had their only child, Molly, who became his whole world.

Ernest was a humble man who didn't ask much and gave a lot in return. He cared deeply for those he loved. Ernest could be found playing backyard games like cornhole and horseshoes, playing cribbage, defeating bad guys on his online games like Diablo or Master of Orion, or reading one of his many books. He enjoyed days on the lake with his many friends or being outdoors with his daughter. Ernest is well loved by many in his community in Stetson and in Massachusetts.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Gerri, and their daughter, Molly; his mother, Barbara Stewart Welch and her husband, David, and siblings, Jayne Bourassa, Lee Stewart and Michele Pouliot, Donna Johnson, Dottie and Jerry Ellis, and in-laws, Marc Johnson, Billy and Tina Chadwick, David and Jessica Chadwick, Jen and Dave Levi, Laurie Chadwick and Bill and Paula Chadwick He is predeceased by his father, Lee Roy Stewart, and his sister, Annemarie Stewart. He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many special, long time friends.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 11 AM at the Walnut Cemetery, Haverhill, MA.  Ernest was a wonderful father, husband, brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed.
