Obituary

Plaistow, NH: Ernest E. "Ernie" Sheltry, 94, a resident of Plaistow for the past twenty-three years, died December 30, 2018 in Exeter.

Born in Meredith, son of the late Raymond and Katharine (Humphreys) Sheltry, he was raised and educated in Windsor, VT. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during W.W. II as a Private in Company B of the Eighteenth Training Battalion, Fourth Regiment.

Mr. Sheltry was employed for forty years by the Melville Shoe Co. of Worcester and retired as the Regional Sales Director. A founding member and longtime President of the Massachusetts Quarter Horse Association, he was a resident of Haverhill for twenty-eight years, and owned and operated Meadowview Farm, where he bred quarter horses and participated in shows all across New England. He also served as a member of the East Parish Neighborhood Association.

He was a former resident of Danvers and member of the Amity Masonic Lodge and Grand Lodge of The Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the the Aleppo Shrine.

Always interested in politics, he worked on political campaigns in Haverhill and later as a resident of Plaistow, he served on several committees including the town Safety Committee and Old Home Day Committee and as President of the Moongate Farm Condo Association. He was an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan and was a car aficionado and owner of dozens of cars during his life. For many years, he was a summertime resident of Gilford NH, and spent many enjoyable hours boating on Lake Winnipesauke.

Predeceased in 2007 by his loving wife wife of sixty-three years, Gloria (Mills) Sheltry, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by a son Ernest E. Sheltry,Jr. and his "better-half" Shirley Lukasiuk of Ninnekah, OK, a daughter, Linda Sheltry of Exeter, a sister, Janet Bossi of South Burlington, VT, grandchildren, Eric Gilmore, Bryan Gilmore, Holly Johnson, Daryl Sheltry, Jared Sheltry, Caitlin Sheltry, and Tyler Sheltry, seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grand-daughter, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Raymond Sheltry and a sister Elizabeth Jenkins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours and Life Celebration to be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main ST., Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with military honors to follow by the U.S. Army in the Military Honors plaza of the funeral home.
