Derry, NH: Elizabeth West Hughes (Edmands) "Betty", 94, of Hampstead, NH died at Parkland Medical Center on January 2, 2019, surrounded by her family.
The daughter of the late Harold and Rowena (Stead) Edmands, she was born and raised in Watertown, MA, graduating from Watertown High School as a member of the Class of 1942.
After high school, Betty wished to serve her country and joined the Woman's Army Corps. She worked as a Stenographer and other clerical positions at the Pentagon. It was there that she met her husband, Charles and they would be married on February 7, 1945.
Betty enjoyed sewing, quilting and knitting. She has hand knit Christmas socks for all her grandchildren whom she loved so much and cherished spending her time with. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading, especially romance novels.
Predeceased by her husband, Charles Ford West, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Patricia Lowden of Lexington, MA and Joan Maier of New Albany, IN, her son, Jack R. West and his wife, Gloria of Hampstead, NH, her sister, Joyce Routh of Magnolia, DE, grandchildren, Peter, Scott, Jill, Billy, Krista and Jake, seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Bill Maier, a sister, Lois Prowten and second husband, Joseph Spring Hughes.
