(Breidenthal) Droste
August 23, 1923 – December 26, 2016
North Andover, MA: Elizabeth J. (Breidenthal) Droste, 93, a resident of the Edgewood Retirement Community for the last fifteen years, died December 26, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born, raised and educated in Louisville, Kentucky, daughter of the late William and Ethel (Gordon) Breidenthal, Libby graduated from the local high school as the class valedictorian. Following her marriage to George T. Droste, Jr. in 1946, the couple moved to Troy, NY where they raised their family in West Sand Lake and resided there from 1951 until 1986. A housewife and homemaker, Libby enjoyed creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband and four children. She played golf at the Burden Lake Golf Club in Averill Park, where she was the Ladies' Golf Champion for several years. She was an avid gardener, with a special love of roses, loved dancing, and enjoyed competitive bridge.
Following the death of her husband in 1985, Libby relocated to Nashua, New Hampshire for three years, where she began painting on porcelain, the passionate hobby of her later years at which she became very accomplished, and then moved to Indian Harbour Beach, Florida for ten years before settling into her final residence in 2002.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law Linda D. Sullivan and Michael P. Sullivan of Sodus, NY, her daughter Diane L. Droste of Malden, MA, her son and daughter-in-law Thomas G. and Kathleen E. Droste of Newburyport, MA, and her five grandchildren, Megan Sullivan, Karen Carpenter, Ashley Droste, Thomas Droste, and Julie Reynolds-Engel. She was predeceased by her daughter Carol L. Reynolds, and her brothers, Gordon and William Breidenthal.
A Memorial Tea in Mrs. Droste's honor will be held on January 27, 2017 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Edgewood Retirement Community, 575 Osgood St., North Andover, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the George T. Droste,Jr. Memorial Prize Fund, c/o Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY.
