Plaistow, NH: Eleanor M. (Doucette) Zaremba, 92, a longtime resident of Atkinson, NH and former Town Clerk, died March 29, 2020 at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA.
Born May 3, 1927 in Jamaica Plain, MA, raised and educated in the Boston area, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marion (Spinney) Doucette.
Moving from Everett, MA to Atkinson, NH in 1956, Ellie and her late husband Ed raised their family in Atkinson and were very involved in their community.
Ellie served as Supervisor of the Checklist, Trustee of the Trust Funds, Town Clerk of Atkinson from 1969 to 1979, and Deputy Tax Collector. She was a member of the Atkinson Grange, an active member of the Atkinson Historical Society and was on the committee that produced the history book "Atkinson-Then and Now."
Ellie was an avid reader, a student of history and genealogy, and also enjoyed traveling. She loved gardening and was a proud recipient of the Atkinson Garden of the Month Award. She also held real estate licenses in New Hampshire and in Florida.
Predeceased in 2011 by her beloved husband of 64 years, Edward F. Zaremba, Sr., she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by daughter Loretta Meleedy and her husband David of Amesbury, MA, daughter Cheryl Guido and her husband Charles of Sun City, AZ, son Edward F. "Buddy" Zaremba, Jr. and his wife Robin of Hampstead, NH, son Walter J. "Wally" Zaremba and his wife Julie of Haverhill, MA, brother J. Richard "Dick" Doucette and his wife Sheila of Englewood, FL, as well as seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas F. Doucette.
At Ellie's request, her burial services will be private for her family and under the direction of Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home of Plaistow, NH. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Atkinson Cemetery Beautification Fund, c/o Town Manager, Town of Atkinson, 21 Academy Ave., Atkinson, NH 03811.
