Blinn
March 27, 1923 – June 30, 2024
Haverhill: Eleanor L. (Flynn) Blinn, 101, a native and lifelong resident of Haverhill, died peacefully Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport, surrounded by her loving family.
She was the daughter of the late Albert and Helen (Racine) Flynn, and was educated in the Haverhill School System, graduating from Haverhill High School with the Class of 1941. She went on to attend MacIntosh Business School. In 1944, Eleanor enlisted in the U.S. Navy WAVES, and was stationed at Norfolk, VA and Atlanta, GA, serving as a Seaman Second Class/Specialist Teacher.
In October of 1945, Eleanor married Louis J. Blinn, and raised three children in their home in Haverhill. Eleanor and Louis enjoyed fifty-four years of marriage until his death in 1999.
As a young woman Mrs. Blinn was employed at Western Electric Co. and later for twenty years as a tax examiner at the Internal Revenue Service, retiring in 1984.
Eleanor was a member of All Saints Parish of Haverhill and the former Saint Joseph Parish, the American Legion Women's Post #417 of Methuen, WAVES National, the Haverhill Women's City Club, and the Andover Service Center Retiree Association. She volunteered her time by visiting veterans and was recently honored with a Veteran's Service Award by Haverhill Rotary Club.
Eleanor and Louis enjoyed traveling to many places, including Europe and Hawaii, and after their retirement they spent winters in Barefoot Bay, Florida. Eleanor enjoyed reading, dancing, knitting, and listening to books on tape. She most enjoyed and cherished spending time with family and friends.
Predeceased by her husband Louis and her sister Dorothy Fredsbo, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Michael Blinn and his wife Janet of Newton, NH, her two daughters, Joanne Bird of Haverhill and Elizabeth Niven and her husband Christopher of Merrimac; five grandchildren, Jonathan Blinn and his wife Lynda of Methuen, Jessica (Blinn) Ciccotelli of Bradford, Michael Bird of Roslindale, MA, Mimi Niven of Florida, and Kenneth Niven of Merrimac.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eleanor's Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 10 a.m. in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Saint James Cemetery, Haverhill. Arrangements are under the direction of Berube-Comeau Funeral Home of Haverhill.
