Obituary

Atkinson, NH:  Eileen (Richard) Shields, 87, a longtime resident of Old Coach Road in Atkinson, died peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2022.

Born, raised and educated in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Frank and Yvonne (Veautour) Richard, she was a member of the Fitchburg High School, Class of 1953.

Eileen's family and faith were her whole world.  An avid reader, and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed spending time at the beaches of New Hampshire, Maine and Cape Cod, and visiting New England lighthouses. A former member of Holy Angels Parish of Plaistow, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, Mrs. Shields was presently a member of Saint Anne's Parish of Hampstead.

A former Assistant Administrator for Liberty Mutual Insurance, Mrs. Shields moved to Atkinson in 1977 with her family. She was employed as the Secretary to the Plaistow Police Chief for twenty plus years before retiring and was named Civilian Employee of the Year several times. She was a member of the Chiefs of Police Secretaries (COPS) Association and also served as a Notary for the State of New Hampshire

Predeceased in 1996 by her son Richard Mark "Richie" Shields and in 2009 her beloved husband of fifty-five years, Richard E. Shields, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Jane Shields of Atkinson, two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Peter McAllister of Rome, ME and Kathy and Joe Miccile of Fremont, NH;  four grandchildren, Samantha (Miccile) Ippolito and her husband Nikolas, of Fremont,  Anna van Riemsdyk and her husband Trevor of Newbury, MA, Harrison Shields of Atkinson, and Megan Shields of Somerville, MA, two great grandchildren Logan Ippolito and Lena Ippolito, a brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Anna Richard of Florida, a sister-in-law Eileen Richard of Leominster, MA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Francis Richard and Ronald Richard.

Relatives and friends are invited to Mrs. Shields' Life Celebration to be held on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral home, 116 Main ST., Plaistow, NH. Her funeral will begin on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead.
