Haverhill – Edwin V. Girroir, Sr., 94, passed away Saturday February 3, 2024, at the High Pointe House in Haverhill following a period of failing health.

Born June 10, 1929 in West Newbury, MA, He was the son of the late Earl and Annabelle (Wilton) Girroir Ed served in the US Army during WWII, he later worked for the Haverhill Fire Department for thirty years, where he retired at the rank of Lieutenant.

Ed was a member of the American Legion for 51 years.  He was also the former Post Commander of the American Legion Post 4 in Haverhill Mass, as well as the American Legion Post 240 in West Newbury.

Ed and his wife Claire celebrated 72 years of marriage last September.

In his spare time, he was a member of the Military Vehicles Collector Club and enjoyed tinkering with antique vehicles.  He was an avid military vehicle enthusiast, enjoyed playing the banjo, and would play with friends for people in elderly housing in Georgetown, MA.   Ed was also a member of the black bottom banjo band and played for years at the Hotel Edwards at Salisbury Beach.

Members of his family include his wife Claire (Vadeboncoeur) Girroir of Haverhill, MA; his son Edwin Girroir, Jr. and wife Wendy of North Andover, MA; his daughter Debbie Green and husband Harry of Nashua, NH; his grandchildren Johnathan, Alex and wife Lauren, Nicole, Samantha and husband Chandler, and two great grandchildren Avery and Allison, one sister Annabelle Briggs of Kingston, NH; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers Ernest, Earl, and Arnold Girroir.

Family and friends are invited to visit Sunday February 11, 2024, from 1 PM – 4 PM at the Berube-Comeau Funeral Home 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA.

A graveside service will be held at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in West Newbury in the spring.
