Plaistow, NH: Edward A. Dougherty, 74, a resident of Plaistow for forty-three years, died on April 6, 2015 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.
Born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, son of the late Sarah Dougherty, he graduated from St. Dunstan's College and served in the Canadian Army. Following his service, he moved to the United States and settled in Somerville, MA before moving to Plaistow.
Mr. Dougherty attended Coyne Electrical and Technical School and Lowell Technical Institute and went on to graduate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T).
Mr. Dougherty was employed as a Technical Engineer for Transitron of Wakefield, MA and later Verizon Wireless for twenty years, retiring in 1990.
A member of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish and the former Holy Angels Parish and the Telephone Pioneers of America, Mr. Dougherty enjoyed traveling. An avid reader, he also enjoyed following and discussing politics and political issues.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Frances (Pina) (Martinez) Dougherty, four sons, Manuel Martinez of Taunton, MA, Anthony Martinez of Plaistow, Harold Martinez of Taunton, and Timothy Martinez of Haverhill, two daughters, Judith Martinez of Plaistow, and Donna Hobbs of Newfoundland, Canada, thirteen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Helen Stone.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mr. Dougherty's Life Celebration on Thursday, April 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH.
