Edward C. Brodie, 73, a resident of Haverhill since 1981, passed into eternal rest on March 30, 2018.
Born in Boston, son of the late Irving and Charlotte (Rosenfield) Brodie, he was raised and educated in Chelsea. He graduated from Chelsea High School with the Class of 1963 and attended the New England School of Art. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army from 1965 until 1967. Mr. Brodie was employed at the Salem Grille in Malden and later owned and operated Brodie's Pub in Peabody. He spent most of the later part of his working life as a glazer employed by J.N.Phillips Glass of Chelsea and later Salem Glass and Demers Plate Glass. He was a member of the Glazer's Union and the Melrose Lodge of Masons.
A devoted family man, he cherished his role as "Papa" to his seven grandchildren. Anyone who knew him, knew that his grandchildren were his whole world. He never missed any of their sporting events, near or far. Every year on the first day of school, he would faithfully be waiting at the bus stop with his camera. He was there for the special events but also for the every-day ordinary moments. He was a wonderful father, loved his girls with all of his heart and had a very close relationship with his Son in law, John. He met his wife Janet in 1980 when they were coworkers and friends. Grateful for the love they found, they were married on Thanksgiving Day in 1985. He adored his two brothers who were also his best friends and truly loved his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews very much. They affectionately referred to him as UE" (Uncle Eddie).
He enjoyed auto racing as a spectator, attending Classic Car Shows, water skiing, camping and restoring old campers. He was a great fan of Haverhill "Hillies", Chelsea High School, and professional sports of any kind.
He was a "Jack of All Trades" always willing to help fix anything for anyone.
He spent summers in Maine and winters in Myrtle Beach. He loved to socialize and he leaves behind many very special friends.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his best friend and loving wife of thirty-two years, Janet D. (Hurd) Brodie, two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn (O'Brien) and John F. Coppola of Bradford, and Kathleen O'Brien of Rochester, NH, two brothers and sisters-in-law, William L and Bobbi Brodie of Andover and Philip R. and Naomi Brodie of Peabody, seven grandchildren, Johnny Coppola, Danielle (Coppola) Meehan, Thomas Coppola, Kara Coppola, C.J.
