Edward A. Bahia, "Ed", 89, of Atkinson, NH, formerly of Reading, MA, passed away on Friday July 9, 2021, at High Pointe House in Haverhill, MA, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Almeida) Bahia. Ed was raised in Somerville, MA and was a graduate of Somerville High School.
Ed served in U.S. Army reserve and was Honorably discharged in 1959. He worked as a millwright for several companies during his working years, enabling him to put his engineering mind to good use. Ed was always interested and fascinated in what made things work.
He loved Jesus, attending and proudly serving with grace as a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Angels Church in Plaistow, NH. This was a great honor for him.
He was an avid reader of history, especially World War 2, loved his Popular Mechanics, listening to the Gaithers and enjoyed collecting and learning about Lionel Trains. Travelling with his wife Pauline and their friends as well as spending quality time with his family was very important. To him, any time he spent with his family, was quality time. There was never any doubt about that.
Eddie loved a good joke, and was very quick witted, often making funny quips he was fondly known to repeat several times over the years. Those quips never got old though. He simply enjoyed to laugh, and wasn't afraid to be laughed at should he mispronounce something, or questioned a word he thought he may have heard due to his hearing impairment. He loved to be kidded, but never got angry over a little teasing; especially if it was from one of his girls.
In their younger years, Ed & Pauline enjoyed travelling to the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Aruba, Italy, Hawaii, as well as going on several cruises to various ports in the Caribbean.
Dining out was also a favorite pastime of theirs, however there are far too many "favorite" restaurant venues to mention.
He adored his wife and was loyal to a fault; always making sure she was safe and cared for. For 64 years, they had a marriage made in heaven, complete with love, sadness, children, grandchildren, and more love right to the end. They had it all.
He was "Dad" to his three daughters, and "Grampy" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all loved him and admired him. For such a kind, loving and gentle man, it was not very difficult to do.
The most important thing to Ed was his family, and he would never miss the opportunity to be at a birthday party, cookout or holiday gathering. He would light up when he saw his daughters, his son in laws and his many grandchildren. His beaming expression would say it all as we all genuinely felt his love, loud and strong.
Eddie (Bay) was a sensitive, gentle man who without effort, expressed his love for his wife and family, freely, and without reservation.
He surely will be missed by all of us who knew him and loved him in return. May he Rest In Peace.
Ed will be sadly missed and always in the heart of his wife of sixty-four years, Pauline (Bertuccini) Bahia, his daughters, Paula DeSisto and her husband, Stephen of Wakefield, MA, Julie Bahia of Wakefield, Janice Persson and her husband, Mark of Wilmington, MA, six grandchildren, Adam, Luke, Jordan and his wife, Gina, Krista and her husband, Steve, Erika and her husband, Scott, Ashley and her husband, Jon, ten great grandchildren, as well as a niece and newphews. Ed was predeceased by his brother, Walter Bahia, sister Juliet Badiali, and grandson Trevor.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday July 15, 2021, from 12 pm to 1:45 pm at Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, 8 Atkinson Depot Rd., Plaistow, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Ed's memory to the High Pointe House, 390 North Ave. Haverhill, MA 01830.
