Edith M.
Doucette
September 20, 1925 – March 20, 2022
Haverhill: Edith Marie Doucette, affectionately known as Miss Edie, 96, a native and lifelong resident of Bradford, Massachusetts, passed away in the early hours of Sunday, March 20, 2022, at High Pointe Hospice House, following declining health.
On September 20, 1925, she was born the daughter of the late Joseph and Edith (Terroux) Doucette; she attended the Cogswell School in Bradford and later graduated from Haverhill High School in 1943. Miss Edie worked for Western Electric Co, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies for many years. Following her retirement, she explored the world and made many friends. Miss Edie traveled to Asia, including trips to Beijing to walk the Great Wall of China. Additionally, she enjoyed Mexico, Monaco, and 22 countries throughout Europe. Locally, she was a longtime member of Sacred Hearts Parish of Bradford and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Her life story would not be complete without mentioning her beloved mother, Edith, whom she affectionately referred to as "the person I most admire and respect." This mother-daughter duo was inseparable. Close friends of the two ladies would ascertain the time of year based on where they were embarking, such as their yearly winter trips to Florida to develop their sun-kissed tans. Even after Miss Edie's mother passed away, Edie continued her trips in the spring to Prince Edward Island and her travels in the fall to see her friends in Ogunquit, Maine.
Most recently, she was a Benchmark resident at Haverhill Crossings and continued to celebrate life with her new friends and caregivers. She enjoyed her new pied-à-terre as it included décor pieces from her travels and a thriving social community full of activities, including casino-themed fêtes and her daily favorite – happy hour!
She is survived by her lifelong friend, Gloria Rizzo, with whom she would paint the town red at various Boston hotspots back in the day. Of particular note is Miss Edie's beloved friend of over forty years and, most recently, her devoted caregiver, Stephen Janavicus of Boxford. Edith was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Mildred Doucette of Miami, Florida, extended family members, and countless friends.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, April 2, at Sacred Hearts Church, 165 South Main Street, Bradford, from noon until 1 p.m. Funeral Mass to follow at promptly one o'clock in the afternoon. Miss Edie's burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford. The arrangements and services are all under the direction of Berube-Comeau Funeral Home, 47 Broadway, Haverhill, Massachusetts. Memorial donations may be made to Cogswell Art Space, c/o Creative Haverhill, Post Office Box 205, Haverhill, Massachusetts.
