Plaistow, NH: Dorothy E. (Sweeney) Ashford, 91, a resident of Plaistow for the past twenty years and a former resident of Hampstead, died September 5, 2017 at her home.

Born in Haverhill, daughter of the late John and Angelina (Panneton) Sweeney, she attended local schools including Saint James High School.

Employed for many years as a floor manager in the Haverhill Shoe industry, Mrs. Ashford was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion in Plaistow.

Noted for her wonderful cooking and baking, Mrs. Ashford also enjoyed crocheting, reading, and in her younger years, fishing and hunting with her late husband. She was devoted to her dog "Taffy" and she considered the time with her family to be the most important part of her life.

Predeceased by her husband, Norman C. Ashford in 1997, she has made her residence for the past twenty years with her niece and nephew, Patricia and Alexander Brown of Plaistow.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sisters, Marjorie Scanlon of Atkinson and Jeannette Rundle of Kingston, a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Melissa Sweeney of Salem, NH, and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Ashford's Life Celebration to be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. Her funeral service will follow at 11a.m. in the funeral home and concluding with burial in Maplewood Cemetery.
