Haverhill, MA: Dorothy "Dottie" (Cross)  Hayward, a resident at Wingate at Haverhill in Massachusetts, passed away on February 16, 2018 at the age of 81.

Daughter of the late Arthur Cross and Grace (Parker) Cross, she grew up in Haverhill, MA and attended St. James High School. Dottie graduated from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Nashua, New Hampshire as a registered nurse. She met her husband, Kenneth Hayward, Sr. in her final year of nursing school. They were married for 61 years. She spent her nursing days working to heal those in need at the Hale Hospital for 30 years.  After retiring, she moved to 'The Falls' in Ormond Beach, Florida. Dorothy was an active member in her community, involved with many activities such as the church choir and was a member of the Orchid Society and the Falls Singers. Her favorite hobbies were singing and listening to music usually by artists such as Josh Groban, Glen Campbell and the Vogues. When she wasn't surrounded by sheet music and CDs, she could be found collecting and refurbishing antique dolls or spending time with friends and family.  Dorothy lived life to the fullest until diagnosed with dementia five years ago. Her husband was devoted to caring for her in their Florida home until he passed away last year.

Surviving family members include her son Kenneth Hayward Jr.; daughters Donna Montalbano, Sandra Hayward, and Laurie Bramlitt; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sisters Maryrose Dergay and Laura (Betty) Quigley; brothers Arthur (Ray) Cross and John (Bill) Cross.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Hayward Sr.  She will be missed dearly by friends and family alike. Dorothy will be laid to rest alongside her late husband in the Lowell Cemetery.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main Street in Plaistow, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018  at 10 am at St. James Church, 185 Winter Street, Haverhill, MA followed by burial in the Lowell Cemetery, 77 Knapp Avenue in Lowell, MA.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's and Dementia research at the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL. 17, Chicago, IL 6060 or your local MSPCA.
