Obituary

Lawrence, MA — Dorothy (Dot) L. Credit, 92, of Ossipee, NH (formerly of Haverhill, MA) passed away peacefully on January 29 th at Lawrence General Hospital.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on April 28, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Yvonne (Sauriol) Allard. She attended St. Joseph Grammar School, and graduated from Haverhill High School in 1947. She had a lengthy career in the insurance industry, initially at the Gage Insurance Agency, where she started work immediately after high school. She then moved to Anthony-Brooks, where she worked for 25 years until she and her husband Leo retired to their vacation home in Ossipee, NH in 1995. It was there she found her second career, as a volunteer at Huggins Memorial Hospital in Wolfeboro for over 22 years, stopping only due to the COVID pandemic. In 2014, she was very proud to receive the Barbara J. Hunt award from the Corporation for National and Community Service, in recognition of her more than 9,000 hours of service and dedication to the hospital. During the pandemic, she wrote a book entitled "A Collection of Life Stories" as a gift to her children and grandchildren, documenting a long and well-lived life.

Dot, affectionately known as "The General" by her siblings and co-workers, was a woman of strong convictions, blessed with the ability and determination to get almost anything done. She was the driving force and guiding light for her family her entire life. She could not be sold on anything that didn't make sense, as she was driven by her common sense, character, and love of God to always steer the ship in the right direction. Dot had a love and dedication for her family - which included 7 children, 23 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren - that was second to none. She could stretch a dollar a mile, and had no problem saying "no" if she knew it was in the best interest of her kids or the situation at hand. She was fearless, strong, stoic, and never intimidated by anyone or anything. She loved spending time with her family, her dogs, playing cards – especially 45's - and following local Boston sports teams. She and Leo enjoyed their post-retirement trips, and especially the time they spent every winter in Myrtle Beach relaxing and gallivanting with their friends from all over the country.

Dot was predeceased by Leo, her husband of 58 years, as well as her siblings, Shirley Corneau-Jackson, Gertrude Mahoney and Jeannette Sauriol. She is survived by her seven children, daughters Jeanne Holland and husband, Jamie, of Maryville, TN, Patricia Flanagan and husband, Brian, of Bradford, MA, and Marie Torris and her husband, Michael, of Atkinson, NH; sons John and wife, Lilian, of Merrimac, MA, William and wife, Lynn Ann, of Salem, NH, Allen and wife, Suzanne, of Groveland, MA, and Leo and partner, Donna, of New Gloucester, ME.

The Credit family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Lawrence General Hospital and Merrimack Valley Hospice for the excellent care and services provided to her.
