Bedford, NH: Donald H. Sargent, 85, of Bedford, NH, died on March 9, 2018 at his home.
Born in Haverhill, MA, the son of the late Hugh and Mary (Denoncour) Sargent, he was raised in Plaistow, NH, attending Pollard School and Haverhill High School, graduating with the Class of 1950. He attended Bentley College where he received his Degree in Accounting. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked as an Auditor for ten years for Hermon D. Cohen & Company, Boston, MA and as a Senior Vice President for Amoskeag Savings Bank and as a Senior Vice President for Portsmouth Savings Bank from 1991 – 1999.
A member of Holy Angels Parish, Plaistow, NH, he was a Benefactor of the Town of Plaistow and donated funds to repair the clock tower as well as the Great Hall which is named in his honor. He was a past member and President of the Portsmouth Kiwanis, the past President of Seacoast Widowed Persons group, the Board of Director of the NH Animal Rescue League and served as an Accountant for the Manchester Historical Society. He was also very active with the New Hampshire Special Olympics.
Mr. Sargent enjoyed attending his grandsons' hockey games, family vacations in Ogunquit, ME, ocean cruises and travels to Southern U.S. He played tennis and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, his favorite players were Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at the Arbors for the wonderful care they extended to Don during his residence.
The husband of forty years of the late, Shirley (Brye) Sargent who died in 1999, he is survived by a son, Adrian A. Sargent of Manchester, NH; a daughter, Elizabeth M. Tack and her husband, David of Manchester, NH; a brother, Barry Sargent of Kingston, NH; two grandchildren, David Tack, Jr. and Adam Tack and one great granddaughter, Rachel Tack. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Janet M. Sargent who died in 2012.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, from 5 to 7 PM at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral will begin on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at 8:45 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Holy Angels Church of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, Plaistow, NH, followed by the rendering of U. S. Air Force military honors. Burial service will take place in the spring in Holy Angels Cemetery, Plaistow, NH.
