Obituary

Celebrating the long life of Donald Ainsworth Clough (97), who had resided at Edgewood Retirement Community in North Andover, Massachusetts since 2018. He previously lived in Groveland and North Andover. Born on June 24, 1929, in Dracut, Massachusetts, Don was the 4 th child of Henry Clough and Myrtle (Gordon) Clough.

After graduating from Dracut High School, he pursued further education in drafting at Lowell Technical Institute and industrial design at the University of Bridgeport, equipping him for a career that would see him contribute to some of the most important defense technologies of his time. In the early 1950s, Don served his country with honor in the United States Army. Following his military service, he worked as a draftsman with Sikorsky Aircraft, then moved on to Itek, where he played a role in developing test equipment for cameras used in the legendary SR-71 Blackbird. He moved on to Raytheon for the remainder of his career, where he contributed to the development of the Sparrow, Hawk, and Patriot missile systems. Don had three strong passions. An avid alpine skier, he was on the slopes into his early 90s. He loved cars (particularly Corvettes), car design and auto racing and owned many sports cars throughout his life. He also loved architecture, especially that of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Don is survived by his daughter Lynette and her husband David Kimball of Methuen, MA and their sons Brian and Greg; son Jeff and his wife Katy of Loudon, NH and their sons Michael and Andrew; son Eric and his wife Viki of Beverly Hills, MI and their daughter Stephanie Clough Landgraf; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece, Donna Roy Mangiaratti of Methuen, MA with whom he shared a special bond, and several nephews, nieces and great nieces/nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Gordon and Merrill, sister Virginia Kollen, and his two wives, Nancy (Thomas) and Pauline (Gagnon).

A private memorial service for immediate family will be held at Elmwood Cemetery Mausoleum in Haverhill MA at a later date.
