Plaistow, NH: David F. Post, 82, a longtime resident of Plaistow and business entrepreneur, died Saturday, June 23, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born on September 10, 1935 in Marlborough, MA, son of the late Kenneth and Marjorie (Holmes) Post, he moved to Swampscott, MA at the age of eight and attended local schools. He graduated Swampscott High School with the Class of 1954 and later served in the US Army National Guard out of Salem, MA.
David and his wife, Dorothea (Rademaker) moved to Plaistow in 1970 with their three boys and established State Line Kennel. In 1974 David started State Line Tack Shop, a discount tack store which made equestrian riding affordable to all. This business became one of the largest retail and mail order companies in the USA in the 1980's. David was and still is a legend in the tack business.
Dave enjoyed woodworking and carving, fishing, hunting and collecting and restoring antique cars. He was an accomplished bird-dog trainer and enjoyed taking part in competitive field trials on horseback with his Pointers.
Predeceased by his first wife Dorothea C. "Thea" Post in 2000, Dave will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his second wife Elizabeth (Foye) Rodrick-Post, three sons, Eric Post and his wife Karen of Barrington, Dana Post and his significant other Rhonda Soucie of Plaistow and Gary Post and his wife Melissa of Plaistow, two grandchildren, Axel Post of Barrington and Thea Post of Plaistow, and her mother Sophie Thielke, step-son's Michael Rodrick of Bow and Jonathan Rodrick of Plaistow, NH. A brother, Phillip Post of Seattle, WA and a sister Leslie Root of Fairfield, CT along with several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of remembrance on Thursday June 28, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home,116 Main Street, Plaistow, NH. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Maplewood Cemetery in Plaistow. In lieu of flowers donations in David's name may be made to the: Thea Post Memorial Endowment Fund for Cancer Research, C/O Lahey Clinic, Burlington, MA.
