Haverhill, MA: Mr. David F. Lane, Jr., age 96, passed away on February 7, 2023 at Aspen Hill Rehab Center, after a short illness.
Born April 23, 1926 in Haverhill, he was the son of the late David and Martha (Donohue) Lane.
Mr. Lane was a graduate of Haverhill High School, Class of 1944, and Boston College, Class of 1951, with a B.S. degree in Marketing. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Radioman, Third Class, from June 1944 until 1946, and was a recipient of the American Area Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves. .
Mr. Lane worked at Lucent Technologies, formerly Western Electric and AT&T, N. Andover, MA for thirty-six years, and retired as a Department Chief in February 1987. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
David was an avid sports fan. He was a fifty-year season ticket holder to Boston College Football and also enjoyed attending local high school sporting events. He was a longtime member of the Walnut Square Association and St. John the Baptist Church for many years.
David and his wife, Helen, enjoyed many travel vacations during their seventy years of marriage, especially their winters in Briny Breezes, Florida. He cherished family gatherings with children and grandchildren.
He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Helen R. (Gagnon) Lane, his children, Susan Cleary and her husband, Joseph of Haverhill, MA, David Lane and his wife, Kerry, of Conway, NH and Jeffrey Lane and his wife, Patricia of Methuen, MA, three grandchildren, Daniel Lane, Michael Lane and Joseph Lane and his wife, Alecia and 2 great grandchildren, Ella and Reece.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard E. Lane.
The family thanks Wingate Residences and Aspen Hill Rehab Center for their extraordinary care and kindness to David and the family.
The funeral services with military honors and burial will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to All Saints Food Pantry or St. Vincent DePaul.
