David Richard Hassell, 85, a resident of Haverhill, MA, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

David was born in Montaque, MA on December 26, 1939 and was the son of the late Richard and Alice (Bryant) Hassell. He was raised in East Long Meadow and Conway Massachusetts where he spent his childhood hunting, fishing and trapping. He graduated from a local Highschool and went on to enlist in the National Guard where he proudly served his country for 4 years. David went on to get his associates degree shortly after serving.

David was a life long member of the NRA and some of the local snowmobile clubs in Colebrook, NH. He loved the outdoors. David passionately continued fishing, hunting and camping until his later years. He also enjoyed attending all his grandchildren's sporting events where you would always see him in the stands. David was a longtime owner and operator of Taylor Rental in Haverhill, MA, opening the doors in 1970. After his semi-retirement in 2018, his son continued to run the business. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his children Richard Hassell and his wife Janis of Newton, NH, Beth Skafas and her husband Mike of Haverhill, MA, and Jill Hassell of Haverhill, MA, his five grandchildren Amber Mayfield, Andrew Hassell, Elizabeth Hassell, Nicholas Skafas, and Emma Skafas, his two great grandchildren Nena Mayfield and April Mayfield. He also leaves behind his longtime partner Joan Dyer and her children Keith Dyer, Sean Dyer and Kimberly Aldrich.

He was predeceased by his sister Judith Hassell.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 from 10am – 12pm at the Berube-Comeau Funeral Home 47 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12:15pm. Interment will be held in St. Josephs Cemetery Haverhill, MA.
